FAQ’s

The events that we run at Canto 19 are used for many different purposes, such as part of a management training and motivational programme, as a fund-raising event, or simply as a personal challenge for an individual.

Whatever the reason a company, business, charity or individual may have for holding an event, a number of questions are frequently asked.

All of our activities can either be held as either a standalone event or combined with other Canto 19 activities.

There really is no minimum or maximum number of participants when it comes to hosting an event. For example, a firewalking event can cater for just one solo walker, yet the world record for the greatest number of consecutive fire walkers is 1356!

There is no minimum or maximum age restriction which may preclude an individual from taking part in any activity. In respect of children however, participation is at the discretion of Canto 19.

Every participant, before they are allowed to take part in a particular activity, must undergo a Canto 19 training seminar.

The seminar forms an integral part of the event experience and takes place immediately prior to the activity itself.

At Canto 19 we fully understand and appreciate that our clients may wish to tailor the delivery of an event to reflect certain aims, goals or requirements. As such, before booking an event, each client is sent a ‘Client Questionnaire’ to complete which asks some basic questions about the proposed event, including what the specific needs of the client are.

An event can be held almost anywhere. Firewalks, for example, can take place on almost any surface, including grass, tarmac, stones, sand, tiles and brick, whist many of the other events are typically done indoors.

On request, events may also be held at Canto 19 HQ, located in Leicestershire (subject to an additional fee).

The area required to host an event is dependant on the number of participants and on the activity being performed.

With respect to a seminar, the location must comfortably accommodate all participants and Canto 19 staff and, if the activity is to take place in the same location, enough space for the activity itself (typically a 5m x 5m area).

A firewalk, which occupies the largest minimum area of all the activities, typically requires a minimum area approximately 10m x 15m (depending on the number of participants), and this area must not contain any overhead obstructions or hazards (such as overhanging branches or cables).

None of activities that Canto 19 undertake will damage the area upon which they take place.

With respect to firewalking, to protect the area, we first put down fire-retardant plywood sheeting, on top of which we place fireproof ground sheeting.  Above this, we lay two layers of turf.  These layers act as the bed upon which which firewalkers walk across and protects the area from the heat of the fire.

Whilst weather conditions can play a major part in determining where to site an event, they won’t usually prevent an event from occurring. With that said, at Canto 19, we will not hold a firewalk if a weather warning is issued by the Met Office.

Other than firewalking, all our events can be held indoors.

If an event is taking place at Canto 19 HQ, then the client does not need to supply or provide anything for the event itself.

If taking place elsewhere, other than providing a suitable area in which the seminar and activity can take place, there is still very little that a client needs to organise.

However, it should be noted that:

  • With respect to firewalking, we will aim to site the fire where access to a water supply is not too remote.
  • To aid in the clean up operation after a firewalk event, we do request that a skip is provided. This will be used to deposit ash, turf and any other waste. If a venue or event is unable to accommodate a skip, Canto 19 will organise for the disposal of waste (subject to an additional fee).
  • Whilst at all Canto 19 events at least one member of the team will be trained in first aid, it is the responsibility of the client  to provide additional medical support and resources if required.
  • All elements beyond the scope of the activity itself, such as entry and exit to the venue, parking, spectator control etc. are the sole responsibility of the client.

Although no two events are identical, the following provides an example of a typical event schedule.
